If Ha Long Bay is the first stop of your Vietnam trip, there is no reason to spend a night in Hanoi first. The expressway from Noi Bai Airport bypasses the city and runs almost directly east — wheels down to cruise gangway in a single seamless leg. This guide covers fares, the timing maths for cruise check-in, and what happens when flights run late.

Fares are per vehicle, fixed in writing before you fly, and include fuel, every expressway toll and marina parking. The Cruise Check-In Maths
Most overnight cruises check in between 11:30 and 12:15 at Tuan Chau. Working backwards: up to 3 hours of driving plus 30–45 minutes for immigration, bags and a bathroom stop means a flight landing by 08:30 makes the same-day connection with margin. Landing between 08:30 and 09:30 is possible with a fast exit — tell us your cruise operator and we will give you an honest yes or no before you commit. Later arrivals are better served by a night in Hanoi and a relaxed morning transfer; we run Noi Bai to the Old Quarter at a fixed 350,000 VND (≈ $13).
The Pickup: Inside Arrivals, Flight Tracked
Share your flight number when booking. Your chauffeur monitors it from departure, adjusts for delays automatically, and waits inside the Terminal 2 arrivals hall with a name sign — waiting time is free, however late the aircraft. The Route: East on the Expressway, Never Through Hanoi
From the terminal the car joins the ring expressway and heads east on the Ha Noi – Hai Phong – Ha Long corridor: dual carriageway nearly the whole distance, no traffic lights, one good rest stop with clean facilities near the midpoint. After a long-haul flight most passengers simply sleep — the cabin is quiet, and the driver will wake you ten minutes out.
Ha Long Bay to Noi Bai Airport: Flying Out After the Cruise
The same service runs in reverse. For an international departure, leave Ha Long at least 6 to 6.5 hours before your flight: about 3 hours of driving, a buffer for traffic, and the standard check-in window at Noi Bai. Cruises disembark by late morning, which pairs naturally with evening flights. Book the return together with the arrival leg and the combined fare above applies.
The return runs the same 172 km on the CT04 expressway, and the fare is identical in this direction: 1,500,000 VND (≈ $57) for an SUV (5 seats), 1,700,000 VND (≈ $65) for an SUV (7 seats) and 4,000,000 VND (≈ $153) for the Executive MPV. Your chauffeur can collect you at the cruise pier, at Tuan Chau or Hon Gai, or at your hotel — tell us which when you book.
If your flight is an early-morning departure, a pre-dawn pickup from Ha Long is normal for us and carries no night surcharge. Give us the flight number and we will work the pickup time back from it.

Noi Bai to Ha Long Bay: Questions Travellers Ask
My flight lands at 09:00 — will I make a 12:00 cruise?
It is tight but usually possible with carry-on luggage and e-visa approval in hand. Send us the flight and cruise details and we will answer honestly; if it is not realistic, the operator’s day-boat alternative or a next-morning departure protects your money.
What if my flight is delayed two hours?
The chauffeur tracks the flight and the pickup moves with it at no charge. If the delay kills the cruise connection, we re-route you to your Hanoi or Ha Long hotel instead — decided together on WhatsApp while you are still airside.
Do you drop at Hon Gai and Bai Chay as well as Tuan Chau?
Yes. Any pier or hotel in Ha Long city is the same fixed fare. Tell us the cruise operator and we deliver you to their exact check-in desk.
Is there a cheaper shared option from the airport?
Shared shuttles exist but depart on their own schedule, not your flight’s. After a delay you may wait hours or lose the seat entirely. The fixed private fare is per vehicle — for a family it is often within 20–30% of four shuttle seats, door to door.
